The open workshop — one exhibit
One construct's construction record, standing at its own stable address. The register's laws travel with it: entries are operator-declared and dated as of 2026-09-11 — never auto-asserted; the subject is the construct — never you: reading this page records nothing about anyone (E-only, standing). The full record: /sx/workshop.
Exhibit — The Plain Companion — The Distance Was Mine
lifecycle: draft · The plain-words companion to the fifth paper, for the people owed the duty of care acknowledged there: the family and near household first (for whom the benefit may have been unclear while the cognitive distance was very clear), then staff, clients, and the community of open practitioners. Seven learnings told as life before any instrument is named — the three faces; two locks one; banked noticing; failures at full standing; every clock its own; the remainder where grace lives; and the distance as the price of the lock. The declared balance test: a reader who skipped the first and last pages would still carry the learnings; a reader of only those pages would still know they were thanked. No one named, no one identifiable, nothing asked of any reader.

| 2026-08-01 | SEAL | The intent sealed before drafting — the audience declared On the operator's word ('a composition that is not for the academics, but for the very people to whom I owe the duty of care… the intent is still to convey the value and learnings of LDD more so than it is to set up the platform for thanks'): the audience in his order (family and domicile first; staff; clients; the open community); the essay form, ABT-spined, single-sitting; the payload = the seven learnings in life terms + the method-for-work rules; the product band 1,800-3,200; the acknowledgement's position sealed as frame and close, never the platform; the quiet-participant rule absolute. |
| 2026-08-01 | DRAFT | Draft 0.1 — composed and staged for the operator's review The essay written under the seal (body 2,018 words, in band) and landed in the staged lane — in-repo, hashed, ungranted, never served: the kitchen-table opening; the work told in one breath; the seven learnings with the seventh belonging to the family (the distance as the price of the lock, the second lock theirs to turn); the forward rules for the working audience (checkable change as the only meaningful change); the thanks plainly, ending on-its-way-home. THE READING GRANT AWAITS THE REVIEW; the title awaits the naming act (working: 'What the Distance Was For'). |
| 2026-08-01 | DRAFT | The review lands and the prose direction is taken at 0.2 The operator's review of 0.1: 'Love it. It is taken upon the corner and takes my full pain and my full regret, but it leaves nothing on the line because the line it takes is true.' His one direction: rephrase and restructure without the em-dash, to conform to the expectations of non-generative prose. Draft 0.2 takes it in full: every sentence recast rather than mechanically stripped (zero em-dashes and zero en-dashes verified in the file); the substance, the seven learnings, and the lines of the review's verdict unaltered; body 2,001 words, in band; 0.1 retained in the record's history. Still staged, still ungranted: the naming act and the reading grant remain the operator's words. |
| 2026-08-01 | DECISION | The closing statement entered verbatim, under the three standings The operator's words, entered untouched at 0.3 and noted as his direct intent as Steven De Costa, as starl3n, and as the Executive Director of Link Digital: that there will always be matters that become of us the notes of others; that having become a matter of note, and having made causes of note for those he cares for deeply, he asks the time and structure to return into their good graces; and that he hopes, trusts, and gives his own faith that he is now on the way home. The statement concludes the piece in his voice where the composed close had pointed; nothing else altered; zero dashes verified stands; body 2,112 words, in band. Still staged, still ungranted: the naming act and the reading grant remain his words. |
| 2026-08-01 | READING | The reading grant — the companion readable beside its paper The operator's word: 'let's promote, publish or whatever we need to do to put it on the SX surface.' In the house typing that is the reading grant: the piece minted out of the staged lane with the plaque carrying its whole one-day arc (the intent before drafting; the review; the no-dash prose pass; the closing statement under the three standings; the grant word); the hash pinned; zero dashes holding through the plaque itself. The reading surface stands at ten. Readable is not published: external publication, if ever, is its own act; the working title rides pending the naming act; the registration row is the operator's sheet act on his go. |
| 2026-08-01 | DECISION | The naming act: The Distance Was Mine The operator resisted retitling while the question stayed real: the working title spoke from the outside frame, and his reflection held that the distance was fundamentally his own and relative, the cover he had to hold to envelop and conduct the experiments, with no measure surpassing his own. Offered the frame choice (own it, explain it, or forgive it on the door), his verdict landed on ownership: 'The Distance Was Mine is perfect. Lock it in.' Draft 0.4 registers the title as the one change; the working title stands as the earlier versions', superseded and retained; the piece now travels its author's own arc, from the distance was mine to I'm now on the way home. |
