The open workshop — one exhibit

One construct's construction record, standing at its own stable address. The register's laws travel with it: entries are operator-declared and dated as of 2026-10-21 — never auto-asserted; the subject is the construct — never you: reading this page records nothing about anyone (E-only, standing). The full record: /sx/workshop.

Exhibit — The Double Hinge, held

lifecycle: draft · The Foundations · 13 — the thirteenth exhibit of the foundations series: the Double Hinge, the Hinge's staircase stood up as two orthogonal axes — being and knowing — crossing at the fold, where the ground's coherent precision is its own readout and the fold has a witness horizon; locked in its own time and given the context of the locks that followed. Two locks separated by time: the GROWN entry is the record as it fell, quoted verbatim and never contested, its figurative reading marked as the record marks it and its refuted conjecture kept; the OFFLOAD entries name the later closed locks that now carry part of its weight, direction and weight stated, never restating a count; the WALK is an offer, not a condition. Validated by the locks, never by the reader: a reader's curiosity is welcome and is not required for the knowledge to be what the locks say it is.

The exhibit's intent is the design note's rule, sealed before any editorial word: lock the experiment in its own time without contest (the GROWN entry, first and never amended, the record's figurative reading — precision as a half-life from the fold — quoted as the record marks it, and its refuted catch-step conjecture kept as refuted); give it the context of the external locks that followed as metabolic offload, never informational linkage (OFFLOAD entries, each from a lock that is itself closed, its direction and weight stated, never restating a count); offer a walk a reader may take or leave (WALK); say which lock validates what; assume no curiosity of the reader; and let the reading explain the experiment, the house's method staying in the plaque (the seventh point). The record's own invariants bind the exhibit as they bind the record: a readout over the frozen geometry, the baseline pinned, the double hinge adding only the two-threshold onset read and the half-life framing; the witness the experimenter, no observer synthesised; the second actor-pair leg parked, noted and not built. The commission, at the operator's word, verbatim: 'ok - now do the same for the double hinge.' — the Double Hinge stands thirteenth in the series, the sixth and last of its second tier, which is held whole with it. The OFFLOAD and WALK entries are the operator's hand and are not yet written.

2026-09-16GROWNThe grown lock — the Double Hinge as it fell
THE PLAIN LINE. The Hinge's staircase, emergence and horizon, stood up as two orthogonal axes — being, the emergence of the 'is' driven by the difference, and knowing, an observer's registration of it driven by the precision Pi — crossing at the fold (0.5, 0.5), the slip off the fold read in half-lives; the ground's coherent precision measured at Pi ≈ 4, its own readout, and invariant to the difference; over-precision the Pi 5 knife-edge re-derived from the other side; the fold's own witness horizon at 237, the coherent knowing, self-referential; the catch-step conjecture refuted and the law a 2:1 ratio; the fold pinned at Pi ≈ 4.23, well resolved. THE RECORD, VERBATIM (oxexp-double-hinge-design.md). Status: "BUILT (engine + plugin + SoA + dashboard + page + tests). Builds on oxexp-hinge. Crosses the ontological emergence of the shared 'is' (the being) with its onto-epistemic reading (the knowing) as two orthogonal axes meeting at the fold (0.5, 0.5)." §1: "The hinge established a single staircase with two ends: emergence (the residual first resolves — the 'is' becomes a bit) and the horizon (the residual first exceeds the observer's Pi-quantum — the observer registers the difference). The double hinge stands these up as two orthogonal axes crossing at a shared origin, the fold"; "X — ontological (being) … At the unit difference this is lap 137 — the ground's own first bit"; "Y — onto-epistemic (knowing) … the lap at which an observer at precision Pi first knows the actors differ"; "The claim: knowing tracks being when precision is matched to the ground; the cross then sits at the fold. Mismatch → onto-epistemic slip off the fold"; "coarse Pi → knowing lags being"; "over-fine Pi → knowing leads being — the observer resolves below the 'is' floor, reading noise as signal: the Pi = 5 knife-edge regime". §2, his reading: "(0.5, 0.5) is not a corner but the origin of the frame — the half-bit crossing"; "this makes precision a 'half-life' measure from the origin, and it is grounded in two measured laws" (the residual doubling per octave — "the residual's half-life is one octave"; the ~10×/dp law); "slip = log₂(knowing_lap / being_lap)". §3: "the observer / witness is the experimenter — the third who takes notice of the results. The double hinge does not synthesise an observer"; "the witness's noticing is the epistemic act (the 'confirm' … 'frozen until observed')"; "Parked (a future leg): Y as a second actor-pair … Noted; not built." §4, at the unit difference being = lap 137 — Pi 1: 232872, +10.73, lags · 2: 23285, +7.41 · 3: 2356, +4.10 · 4: 237, +0.79, ≈ fold · 5: 46, −1.57, leads · 6: 11, −3.64 · 7: 1, −7.10; the three results: "The coherent precision is Pi ≈ 4 … and Pi 4 is exactly the baseline's own readout_dp. The ground reads itself coherently"; "Pi ≥ 5 is the 'knowing leads' regime — over-precision … This is the same Pi = 5 knife-edge found in the hinge … now re-derived from the opposite direction: two independent paths, one conclusion"; "The coherent precision is ~invariant to the difference" (rate 0.25 → 16, being 499 → 11, the mode 4) — "coherence is a property of the ground, not of the difference"; "Both onsets are catch-lap quantised". The witness horizon: "the recorded coherent_pi flips 5 → 4 at laps 237" (235–236: 5, slip −1.57 · 237–238: 4, slip +0.79); "This is an observation-window effect, not a change in the system"; "So the fold has a witness horizon — the minimum observation needed to locate it, equal to the coherent Pi's own knowing (237 at the unit difference). It is self-referential"; "too-short observation is indistinguishable from too-fine precision"; "The engine reports settled (fold bracketed) + witness_horizon, so under-observed rows are labelled, not misread as physics." The catch-step probe: "The natural conjecture — that coherent-knowing sits a fixed catch-step past being — is refuted"; "the step runs 0 → 39 on the full catch ladder" (the earlier reading on the sparse ladder, where 137 and 237 are neighbours); "The real relationship is a ratio: witness_horizon ≈ 2 × being" — the same residual ramp crossed at thresholds 2:1; "the observed ratio jitters around 2 (≈ 1.5 – 2.1 …)"; "coherent_pi = 4 at every rate probed here", genuinely wobbling to 5 at a few rates via catch-quantisation at both shallow and deep laps. Pinning the fold: "The fold sits at Pi ≈ 4.23 = −log₁₀(residual at being's lap)" ("residual@137 ≈ 5.9×10⁻⁵ → −log₁₀ = 4.23"); the fractional sweep 4.0: 237, +0.79 · 4.1: 192, +0.49 · 4.2: 147, +0.10 · 4.23: 137, 0 · 4.3: 137, 0 · 4.4: 93, −0.56 · 4.5: 92, −0.57; "a narrow plateau"; "this crossing is well-resolved — a real fold, not floating-point noise"; "the ground's coherent precision is a genuine constant (≈ 4.23 at the unit difference), of which the integer Pi 4 is the nearest observable readout". §7: "A readout over the frozen geometry — crypto_core and figure2_coincidence.py untouched; the baseline pinned (quad_slip.BASELINE). The double hinge adds only the two-threshold onset read and the half-life framing. Deterministic and test-pinned." The build, as recorded in the house's notes: the engine's one-pass two-threshold scan, run sweeping Pi 1–7, cross sweeping the difference; the suite five, then six with the witness-horizon probe, then eight with the fractional sweep; plain-language help under every composer, at his word. ITS STATE ON THE NODE: the door /double-hinge, state live (the instrument runs on request as the platform singleton; the cross, the difference-sweep locus, the finer-than-integer sweep; nothing a reader does enters the record). NO EXTERNAL ANCHOR RECORDED: the Double Hinge predates the anchoring practice and carries none; this entry says so rather than borrowing one.

2026-09-16READINGThe reading grant given — The Double Hinge, held (draft 0.1) readable; the grant returns to the experiment
The operator's word, verbatim: 'ok - now do the same for the double hinge.' The mint, the Slip's pattern under the seventh point: draft 0.1 made readable at /sx/reading/the-double-hinge-held with THE READING PLAQUE (a draft, not the published form; the grant word carried verbatim; covering starl3n, endorsing Link Digital; the construction record linked), its body the experiment — what the Double Hinge is, the fold and precision as a half-life, the witness, what a run does and the cross, the three measured results, the witness horizon, the catch-step probe refuted, the fold pinned, the register and what is not claimed, where it sits — with the house's method left to the plaque and one closing paragraph; the OFFLOAD and WALK entries are the operator's hand and land as 0.2. THE RETURN: the grant comes back to the experiment — the door /double-hinge on the observatory node wears GROWN · HELD beside its LIVE state on its register line, in its masthead and on the map, linking this reading, and the front page's Foundations strip lists it thirteenth; chrome only, by the closed-lock rule, the record never re-entered. With it the second tier of the series is held whole.

2026-09-16DECISIONThe figures placed — draft 0.2 re-minted at his word
The operator's word, verbatim: 'please go ahead with updating the foundations set of 15 readings with the visuals as planned. progress all of the non screenshot suggestions first.' The reading re-minted as draft 0.2 with 5 figures placed in its body at the sections they explain — each figure a static drawing built by ooi_social/figures/r13_double_hinge.py from the record's own numbers (the engines run on 2026-09-16 where a chart needed a series the record gives only in summary; the record's pinned values otherwise), captioned with its source and marked measured or the record's overlay as the record marks it, served from the SX surface's own store and pinned by sha256 in the grant beside the body; the the-double-hinge-held-draft-0-1.md body kept in reading/superseded/, never erased; the grant stands — a re-mint is not a re-grant. The screenshots the review proposed are the operator's hand and are not placed; the reading's draft-state block says so.
